TABLE 10. LENGTH OF LONGEST HOMOSEXUAL RELATIONSHIP

more difficulty in replying to this question than those with a few longer ones, it seems likely that the true mon's distribution may swing still more heavily to the short sido than it appears to do.

In considering the data on length of present homosexual rolations, it must be kept in mind that far fewer men than women reported any present relationship, and that an unknown number of additi onal men are likely to be engaging in passing sex contacts. The average reported length of "present relationship" was 5 years for the men, higher than the 4.6 average for the women. The shortest "present relationship" reported by a men was 3 weeks; the shortest reported by a woman was 1 week. It seems likely, however, that more men than women were involved in experiences shorter-lived than those reportod. This fact, together with the greater age of the male group, suggests that the higher average obtained for the men is likely to be misleading.

SEX ROLE

The question as to subject's prodominant role in homosexual relationships produced a majority of men who favored either a feminine or masculine role.* The comparative results are in Figuro VI, page 22.

*The original questionnaire asked, "In your homosexual relationship(s) do you consider yourself predominantly masculine, feminino or neither?" The questionnairo for the males changed the word "neither" to "either".
